An L.L.Bean exclusive for three decades and counting, our classic river driver's shirt has an innovative duofold construction that effectively traps and holds warmth.
We named this shirt after the Northern Maine log drivers who made their living in tough conditions - because we designed it to work just as hard. Exclusively knit for us in Nova Scotia, our legendary two-layer Henley features a chill-stopping dual-layer construction - so cold and wet stay out and warmth stays in. We love how it's tough on the outside, and soft on the inside.
- As a duofold construction (the cotton and wool are knitted together), it will shrink in the dryer.
- Outer layer is 50% cotton/40% merino wool/10% nylon.
- Woven just for us in Canada by Stanfield's, a 160-year-old family company.
- Inside layer is made of soft, absorbent cotton.
- Machine wash, dry flat.
- Rib-knit cuffs with Lycra® elastane.
- Thermal construction traps air between the layers to retain warmth and helps layers hold shape.
- Durable, quick drying wool blend outer layer keeps cold at bay.
- Traditional two-button placket.

Watch for Shrinkage
Very comfortable on first wearing, But be careful washing these shirts and order a size larger than what you think you need. Even washing in cold water and air drying, my shirts shrunk about a full size.

Collar Doesn't Lay Flat
Purchased as gifts for 3 different people, different ages as replacements for very old versions they wore for years. While they looked similar, once the shirts were washed and laid flat to dry based on instructions, the band around the neck became curled and lumpy. My guess is that there is some sort of stiffing material in this collar area that doesn't perform similarly to the rest of the shirt. In either case, the quality isn't there for the price, so they are being returned.
Would LOVE to have LL Bean offer a duo-layer all cotton version.
This photo shows the bunched up neckline after never having worn but washed once with careful attention to lay flat to dry.

Long Live the River Driver!!!
This is my all-time favorite go-to garment. I have 5 ( less than 8 yr/o) in-use as purchased, 3 ,(8-12yr/o) in-use minus cuffs as work/paint shirts, and another 3 ( 12-20 yr/o) in-use as clean, soft rags.
I have snug fit ones for unders, normal fit for every day, and 1 size up for winter sleeping.
I love that they're cotton/wool, henley, & long enough to stay tucked. They're not drafty like some sweats
I would like more true colors, fewer dark heathers .I think this should be for both sexes, not dumbed-down for imaginary females.
