Almost perfect
Funny story. I saw this hat and thought it would be a perfect Christmas gift for hubby. All the reviews said it ran too big. When I received it, I measured it against an old wool cap my husband had. About an inch bigger! So I sent it back. The next morning, my husband shows me a picture of this very hat that he wants for Christmas! 😳 I ended up telling him I had bought it but sent back because it was too big compared to his old hat. He informs me that the old hat (not a Bean hat), was too small and over the years had shrunk. So, I ordered it again. It’s just a bit too big, not by much. I’m going to sew a black fleece lining over the cold satin liner and it will fit perfectly. I wish the hat had either fleece or the matching wool on the flap vs the satin. That’s the reason for four stars. It matches his Rob Roy wool jacket I bought him last Christmas perfectly.

A true classic.
Read the reviews and it seemed that everyone seemed to think that these hats were way oversized so I was pleasantly surprised when I received the size small I order and it fit nice and snug on my peanut sized head. The ear flaps were a little wonky out of the box but after some time I was able to get them to sit nice and flat. Good quality great color!

Flaps stick out and are loud!
There's a reason why there are no photos of anyone wearing the hat, or even a photo from the front w/ the flaps up. They stick out and look weird, and when they're down the fabric makes a crinkling sound in your ears. If they added a snap and changed the lining fabric to flannel or something quiet, it would be much better.

Nice hat
Warm and has a nice size visor.
I ordered the XL and it’s borderline too big.

Great hat needs some tweeks
warm, great fabric, and the right hat for very cold; poorly blocked (my hat is shaped like a W on top, with seams standing taller than the fabric in-between); also needs snaps at sides to hold flaps up if not covering ears.

Wear it everyday
Purchased this at the ll bean store when I was looking for gifts and it’s probably the best purchase I’ve made all year (2023) the fit is great and the quilt lining really keeps my head warm. Beanies can be a pain as far as ruining my hair or making my head too hot so this is a great solution to those problems. I purchased the red plaid version and it’s very stylish. Feel like I should be chopping wood somewhere.
