While imitations are endless, it's hard to find authentic sweaters like these anywhere else, especially at this price. Competitors use wool-blend yarns, more modern machinery and take other measures that just can't compensate for the tried-and-true craftsmanship of our heirloom sweaters. Made exclusively for us the old-fashioned way, each sweater is expertly knit in Ireland by family-run businesses who've been making them for generations.

Product Details
Inspired by the traditional sweaters of Ireland - worn as a defense against the bone-chilling conditions at sea - this sweater is made of premium wool that will keep you warm wherever you are.
- Premium 100% wool.
- Handwash and dry flat, or dry clean.
- Heavyweight wool is warm enough for unusual cold, whether braving the sea or a New England winter.
- Time-honored craftsmanship, featuring designs and traditions that go back for generations.
- Irish villagers traditionally knit distinct patterns or cables into the sweaters for good luck.

Warm Winter Wonder
I have had this Classic Hand knit Sweater in Dark Gray for many years and delighted to see it is still available from LL Bean. The styling looks great with my Irish Wool Vintage Tweed Flat Cap. The sweater is great for cold weather. Worn with a wool liner shirt, the sweater keeps one warm when the temperature is in single digits and below. The quality of the wool is superior and the hand knit craftsmanship really makes a solid lifetime sweater.

True Quality
Very solid quality, just like most things from LL Bean. However, the description that talks about how Irish villagers sew in distinct designs for good luck is cute, but very wrong. They sew in specific patterns to be able to tell which family a fisherman is from when they drown at sea and are unrecognizable. Other than that, love it.

This sweater's a winner
This wool Irish Fisherman's sweater is the real deal. Classic style, rugged yet practical and stylish, and warm. Thicker than most wool sweaters but comparable to the L.L. Bean Classic Ragg Wool sweater's bulk that pairs nicely under a shell for cold weather protection. Can be worn alone with a henley under shirt during spring and fall. It has the appearance of a hand-knit masterpiece. I gave it four out of five stars only due to the price point and the cheap plastic buttons. I would've expected leather buttons at this price. Otherwise, this sweater is a winner.

Lifetime Keeper
Beautiful, warm and sturdy, this Irish fisherman's sweater is real wool (but not scratchy), looks great, keeps you cozy, dry and comfortable, and is so well made. Delighted with it. I'm 6'1", 200 lbs, and I like the slightly loose fit of the XL. Great sweater---makes you wish for winter.

Heritage Irish fishermen sweater
The quality of the sweater is wonderful. I love the cable patterns. My only complaint is I had to buy a 3X because 2X was not available.
