Rated 1 out of 5 by from unfortunate redesign I have several of the old design Rivertons. Saw the new design Riverton pants at local LL Bean and they removed the main reason i had been buying them: the zippered pocket on the left leg seam to carry my phone. That pocket location means not worrying about sitting on my phone, yet it is secure & convenient to answer the phone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dissapointing I was such a fan of the now-discontinued Riverton pants, standard fit that I thought I would never need to search for pants again. They were perfect, and I have owned many pairs of them. The new "athletic fit" are not bad pants, but they are dissapointingly inferior to the discontinued style. The fit does seem a bit different -- a little tigher up top. This is not a major problem for me, except that it's now uncomfortable to put my hands in the main pockets, partly because of the greater tightness, but mainly because the pockets are now rimmed with an abrasive, sharp stitching that scrapes my hands. The standard fit had a front, right-side pocket on the upper leg that was perfect for a phone, but that's omitted from the athletic fit. The other changes to pockets thye've made are not as problematic, and I actually like the addition of a zippered back pocket. As others have noted, the fabric used for the athletic fit seems more thin. All-in-all, this new style of Riverton pants are dissapointing enough that I won't be purchasing another pair. How foolish of me to have believed that L. L. Bean would not mess with a good thing. I'll check back every year or so to see if they bring back the far-superior standard fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Deep Pockets Deep pockets. Women's pants don't have them. Fortunately, I can wear a men's size that fits okay and is fine for hiking and has deep pockets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT The Original Riverton What a shame! The original Riverton pant is officially dead. They were the best pants I’ve ever owned. Please ditch these cheap, poorly designed imitations and bring back the real thing. I’m so disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much tighter than the standard version with no str Considerably tighter than the regular fit version. I have lots of the regular fit of these pants, both lined and online. I would wear them all day every day if I could. They seem to be at least an inch smaller in the waist than the regular versions. I ordered 30 inch in all styles. Also, with their tiger fit, they would be much, much better with some stretch.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New Riverton Pants, Buyer Beware Just purchased the unlined and lined (New) version of the Riverton pants online. They are NOT the same as the previous Riverton pants (of which I have 5 pairs). The new “Athletic” fit sits an inch lower on the waist which makes the fit entirely different from the previous version. The pockets have been changed and are terrible, with no zip side pocket for my mobile phone (the new side pocket is open and is at knee level), the front pockets are not as deep as they used to be, the rear pockets sit too low and are open at top, and the zip pocket in the rear is made to hold a credit card and cash at best. The length on both new pairs (34 inseam) is longer which creates puddle pants. I’m returning both pairs and lamenting the discontinuation of the previous version. LL Bean, please consider bringing back the previous Riverton pants (which were perfect in fit, quality, style and utility).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ruined our favorite pants My son and I have long used the Riverton pant as our uniform. The side pockets were great all the convivence of a cargo pant with 90 % less dork factor. I recently bought him a new pair and he called me right away. Without the side pockets they are just another ordinary pant. We will be returning them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They Killed the Rivertons Who killed the best pants ever? I have a half dozen of the original and slightly "tweaked" stretch versions, and LOVE them. It was the POCKETS. Best pocket design ever. The zippered left side, on seam pocket was brilliant. You can fit a plus sized iPhone there and sit down (even in the car) without even noticing that it's there, and still use the regular front pocket too. This is the only design short of cargo pants I've tried that can do that, and Bean was the only one that had it. Also, the right front outside front pocket was great for your "keyless'' car keys. No more accidental panic button alarms because you also had something else in there activating it. I gave these 2 stars because they seemed like OK pants, but would never pay the premium price for them as they're now configured. PLEASE bring back the originals.
