Terrible…
I have shopped with Bean since 78’ this so called field coat has no resemblance to the original. I was duped into buying the 1924 edition hoping it would be faithful.

Best quality and fitting jacket I own. Not sure what else to say. I’m 6’2” and 200lbs, athletic build. Bought the large regular and it fits very well with room for a layer.

First I have to say I am a big llbean fan. I really wanted to like this coat. I was looking for a nice fall style coat. I personally did not care for the style of this coat in person, If I had a local store to see this coat in personally, I probably would not have made my purchase. I feel the coat is underdeveloped and overpriced. I know this is a 100 year anniversary item. However, for the cost of over $200 the quality is not there. The outer waxed cotton material feels thick enough that it won't tear easily. The saddle color is darker than in the photos which was a little off putting for me, a more brownish/yellow color than tan. The front pockets are unlined and the front two flap closure pockets have no securement system so anything you put in them has a risk of falling out. The pockets that do have zippers are too small for cellphones. I am 5'10 195lbs and the medium fit me well, it did not feel big or blousy in the body, no issues with the coat length, however sleeves were a bit long. I love the chamois pattern in the body of the coat. I have the same pattern in their llbean chamois shirt. However, it only lines the body. The sleeves are nylon which I am not a fan of. I wish more manufactures would move away from cheap feeling nylon in the sleeves. From an overall perspective I had higher hopes for the jacket. I feel with this jacket I am paying more for the name and the "heritage" of the coat. I do believe if llbean made some tweaks on future jackets and added some more modern style such as a front zipper instead of just buttons, better pocket securement, and line the sleeves with better material I would have felt better about my purchase. I just cannot justify paying over $200 for this product at this quality. I ended up returning the coat.

Extraordinarily Well-made Field Coat but Sizing!
So I’m a 42 chest and normally always a Large in LL Bean jackets and sweaters, so I ordered this is in a large and it swam on me in both body and sleeves. I exchanged for a medium and it fit perfectly with room to spare for some layering. Now I could focus on how well- made this jacket is. The corduroy under the pocket flaps was a classy touch. The lining is fabulous. The exterior water-resistant material seems perfect. With Bean Bucks subsidizing 75% of my purchase price, this is a no-brainer.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS COAT!
This 1924 edition is replacing a Field Coat that I bought around 1997 (and which is still in fine shape; I'm giving it to a friend). My new version is PERFECT--the fit, the quality, the comfort. I'm going to Newcastle and Edinburgh in November and I'll be proudly wearing this Bean baby as I walk, walk, walk (in my Bean Handsewn Mocs). Thank you, Bean!

I have had two of the original versions of this coat which I wore for years and loved. The new special anniversary edition arrived today. It is exactly what I wanted. Great fit. Outstanding quality. My wife loves the way it looks
