Fabulous boots with one fatal flaw
These boots are so nice! Thick, soft leather, nice shape that’s wide enough for my toes, good underfoot cushioning and they look great. The issue is that theres a big, lumpy seam at the base of the tongue that goes all the way across the instep. It’s not an innocuous little seam you can ignore or something that socks eliminate. I mean a big, lumpy seam that presses into your foot. Not sure whether it’s just a manufacturing issue with the pair I got (hopefully) or a terrible design flaw. Then again, it could be a princess and the pea situation, and the seam won’t bother you at all. All I know for sure is that much as I’d love to keep them, there’s no way I can wear them comfortably because of that darned seam. Bummer. Hey L.L.Bean - If you happen to know that it’s a manufacturing issue and NOT a design flaw in all of them, I’d be happy to exchange them for another pair.

Best boots for 3-season hiking in West Michigan's dunes. They are lightweight, keep out the sand, and with some Sno Seal do a decent job of keeping out the water. Second pair I have bought because I enjoyed the first so much I hiked them to pieces.

Favorite shoes but could use improvement
These are by far my favorite shoes as they're incredibly comfortable and have a barefoot feel while still looking good with jeans or hiking pants. The glue however is separating along the inside after only a couple months so I'm going to have to get some "shoe-glue" or the like to keep them going.
If L.L. Bean made these waterproof and fixed the glue issue, I think they'd be the best day hikers available. As is, they look cool and feel amazing but they can't hold up to any sort of hiking and your feet will get soaked if you have to walk through any sort of puddle or even dewy morning grass so their use is limited.

Bad shoes, good company
My first pair had an issue where the cuff meets the shoe on top - stitcher missed the connection and the shoe fell apart. LL Bean promptly made it right by sending another pair.

These fit terribly.
I had to order 3 different pairs of these, the sizes are a mess and they’re way too tight on the top of my left foot only for some reason. Hopefully they fit better as they break on, can’t wear them with thicker socks.
