Change velcro for snaps on patch pockets
This jacket appears to be perfect in every way except for one thing. The velcro on the patch pockets presents a problem.
The problem with the velcro on the patch pockets is that the flaps on the pockets "self-seal" or "self-lock." This would not happen with snaps.
To elaborate, let's say you are out and you want the pockets to be "open" because you are using them frequently. Every time you let go of the flap it will bond to its "velcro mate" automatically. So then every time you go to use the pocket again you have to mess with the velcro.
Perhaps the velcro is true to the original (as velcro was new in '82) but I think time has proven the limitations of velcro.
L.L. Bean, please upgrade the velcro on the patch pockets to snaps. If this was the case this would be a five-star jacket. Everything else is great.
In fact, I would be willing to pay a little bit more (perhaps $225.) for a jacket with this pocket upgrade.

Best Parka Ever
My late father and I had matching Baxter State Parkas, mine was navy blue with red and black plaid lining on the upper half of the inside. His was a little bit lighter and my late mother had a Lt blue one and so does my wife. We sure wish LL Bean would bring them back in all the original colors for men and women so we can get new ones as mine was a Christmas gift in the mid-80's and my wife's about 10yrs later. They are the best parkas ever sold and they don't wear out. Wind & waterproof and great for layering over a LL Bean down vest. Not bulky, warm, great pockets for your hands and Velcro closure pockets at the waist and chest. Just a perfect coat for everyday use. Washed inside out on gentle and woolite and drycleaning if I remember. I know mine was washed at home but my parents used the drycleaner. Warm hood and great for Buffalo Bills home games for which mine attended dozens. I highly recommend

Uncomfortable
Unfortunately, the wool lining in the upper body of this parka is very coarse and scratchy. Feels like it came straight off the sheep. It's too bad, because the fit and traditional style are excellent. Am returning.

So disappointed:
The fit was perfect. The color was great. The material on shell was good. I love the styling. However, the AWFUL coarse wool from a cheap sheep was nasty. I really tried to get over it but it felt like something a monk from the Middle Ages would have worn to atone for his sins. An hour later I still can feel it on my neck. I am not allergic to good wool. This makes me wonder about WHO designs these things for LLBean. Do these people actually try and wear this item? It is going right back. Very hard to find a nice light parka that has snap buttons and a zipper. It is going right back for credit.

Extremely Disappointed
Didn't fit at all. I have an original of this item and after 30 years thought I'd get a replacement. Bad idea! Not at all like the original.

Fall / Spring Rainwear Perfection
This is the perfect jacket for fall/spring days, especially those with rain. The fit allows me to layer up with an undershirt and a thick flannel shirt or sweater, but it would be snug beyond that. I've been wearing it outside for prolonged periods of time in weather as cold as 35 degree F.

Shoulders a Little Snug
The description for the item notes that it is slightly fitted. The body of the parka is nicely done, but the shoulders are much snugger than anticipated. Not uncomfortable, but not comfortable either.
