Product Details

These innovative, rugged boots were developed and tested with the help of Maine's Game Wardens and Biologists. They spend more hours in the Maine woods than anyone, so they know how a boot must perform to ensure comfort, protection and dry feet.

You won't find anyone who knows the outdoors better than Maine Game Wardens and Biologists. That's why we consulted with them to help design and test this boot. The result is the most comfortable, weatherproof and durable hunting boot you'll find anywhere. Wearing these boots will let you concentrate on tracking that big buck instead of worrying about keeping your feet dry, warm and comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maine Warden Field Boot is great! Love these boots. I used them during the 2024 deer season and they proved to be the right choice to keep my feet warm and dry. They're built tough and provide great traction for all terrain conditions. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in snow and mud I bought a pair of these in spring 2023 for use doing field biology work in the high Sierra Nevada of California. I've now used this same pair for 2 full field seasons (May-October 2023 and 2024) under a variety of conditions, from snow (variable consistency - icy crust in the morning, to soft later in the day) through mud and stretches of ankle-deep water during spring break-up, and into the dry late summer. I've also used them occasionally with snowshoes. They have proved to be extremely versatile, comfortable, and quite durable. They have been consistently warm and comfortable, keep my feet dry even in extremely wet/muddy situations or when walking in wet spring/summer snow all day, and provide excellent arch and ankle support and traction on a range of surfaces. I found their soles to be particularly good walking over icy "sun cups" that develop as the snowpack melts in the spring (requiring great ankle support and a stiff enough sole to keep stable when perched on icy crowns of the sun cups). I estimate I've worn them for roughly 100 days in the field, most days involving 4-6 miles of walking, but ranging up to about 20 mile days, and the boots are still in good shape and have never given me a blister (I always wear them with 2 pairs of socks...usually a Darntough boot sock as a liner, and then a thicker LL Bean or Smartwool boot sock over that). Most recently I've been wearing them for winter walks on muddy ground in Oregon and they are still providing good support and keeping my feet dry and comfortable. There really are only two "issues" with them that I consider worth mentioning. (1) They are a pain in the neck to lace. Changing the 5th lacing anchor from a pass-through tube to a simple open hook like the ones above it would transform lacing these boots from annoying and slow to simple and quick. With the current design, it's very challenging to get the foot section of the laces to snug up and stay snug when making the transition to the lower leg section of open hooks. What I want to be able to do is simply snug the foot section, using an overhand knot just above the last (position 4) open eye to hold the foot section snug when making the transition to the remaining open hooks. If you try to pull on the end of the laces above the position 5 pass-through tube, the foot section only tightens right at the top (just below position 4), leaving the rest of the foot section completely loose. I believe replacing the position 5 pass-through tube with an open hook at the same location would greatly alleviate this problem. The second thing is minor: The rubber facing around the outside of the upper is disconnecting from the underlying leather at one spot on one of the boots. The boot is still functional but it's going to deteriorate more rapidly now that this has begun. I emphasize that I think this was caused by stress put on the boot by snowshoe bindings when I used them snowshoeing several times. The boots are not advertised as being designed for snowshoeing, so it's maybe not surprising that they didn't hold up as well for this as for the other uses I put them to. That said, they worked extremely well in my Atlas snowshoes. Were it not for this durability issue, I would strongly recommend them for use snowshoeing. I also honestly have never had ANY boots that did not end up getting damaged by snowshoe bindings eventually. Overall, I strongly recommend these boots, but I hope LL Bean will consider changing the lacing pass-through tube at position 5 to a simple open hook like the ones above it. I still gave the boots an "excellent" rating because the lacing issue is a minor annoyance and doesn't affect their functionality once you get them laced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost great I bought these in 2021 for deer hunting in Northern Maine. By hunting I mean tracking deer all day, travelling between 5-10 miles through mud and snow over rough mountainous terrain. They are light weight, warm, dry, and comfortable. However, there are two problems. (1)They are squeeky unless you tie them loosley. Obviously I need my boots laced snugly for hiking difficult terrain so this is annoying. There is nothing worse than having the perfect silent traclking snow and all you can hear is the squeek of your boots. (2) Longevity. They have started falling apart where the rubber outsole meets the leather upper. I should point out that this hasnt caused any wet feet yuet but its only a matter of time. This is dissapointing. While they do get abused on the terrain I hunt, I only wear these 2-3 times during our short deer hunting season. I plan on trying to exchange for a new pair in hopes that they will hold up better and maybe they have fixed the squeek.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love them It takes 4 or 5 good hunts to break them in but after they’re broken in they’re fantastic. I hunted with them in the snow for hours and my feet were dry as they were when I left to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch hunting boots These boots by far are the best boots that I've ever purchased from LLBeans. They took no time to break in. Just got back from a whitetail hunting trip up on the Maine Canadian border, These boots did not let me down hiking up on mountain tops, River crossings, and snow uo to 16"deep,feet stayed dry and warm . I highly recommend these boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect hunting boot for wet conditions After 5 full days of hunting the bogs, marshes, wet fields, and flooded trails of Anticosti Island in late October, I can definitely say these are perfect for late fall hunting in wet conditions. I averaged 5-6 miles of stalking each day. These kept me warm but not too warm and always dry. I did break them in over 2 weeks at home and in the yard mowing the grass. And also treated them with the boot treatment sold at Beans. They did stretch a little and required adjustment to the lacing. Paired with medium weight merino wools socks, these boots were worth the investment. When I returned home they cleaned up nicely and are ready for another hunt.
