Better than a balaclava
I bought this for a winter trip to Yellowstone. The temperatures reached a low of 38 below zero and when on Yellowstone Lake the winds made it colder. I had tried the balaclava for face protection but when I pushed it down on my neck it would get twisted and hard to pull up. I wore this hoodie one day and in addition to providing dual purpose for layer protection the hood stayed in place and easy to pull up or push down. I wore it almost everyday. It was a last minute purchase and turned out to be one of the most useful.

Nice base layer for cold and wind
I bought this for a trip to Antarctica and thought the combo hoodie and buff/face mask would work for the conditions there. The fit is body close and the material is thin, suitable for a base layer. The hood works more like a turtleneck than a hoodie. It is too tight fitting to wear without pulling the face mask part up. You can wear the face mask part up without pulling the hood over your head which works well to cover your face and ears. The sleeves are nice and long with thumb holes. This was a plus size.
