Product Details

A customer favorite for 30 years, our Tropicwear sunblocking apparel is now even better - with a softer fabric, built-in stretch, a more comfortable fit and better venting.

  • Slightly Fitted: Relaxed through the chest and sleeve, with a slightly slimmer waist.

Our original SunSmart™ apparel, Tropicwear was first introduced in 1992 to protect destination anglers from the hot tropical sun. Customers quickly discovered Tropicwear wasn't just for fishing, using it for just about anything outdoors. It's been updated with a better fit, new stretch woven fabric that's softer and better ventilation. Best of all, Tropicwear still provides UPF 50+ sun protection, or about 10 times more than a white cotton tee.

  • 71% polyester, 29% nylon.
  • Machine wash and dry.
  • New vertical back caping works well with fishing packs.
  • Cape venting in front for extra air-flow.
  • UPF 50+ fabric blocks at least 97.5% of the sun's UV rays.
  • Made with soft, lightweight polyester/nylon weave with comfortable built-in stretch.
  • Sunglasses microfiber wipe on front shirt tail.
  • Snap down points keep collar in place while using a pack or on boat rides.
  • Wrinkle-free fabric is ready to wear right out of the dryer.
  • Tabs allow you to keep sleeves rolled up and in place even while casting.
  • Includes larger front chest pockets plus a third vertical security chest zip pocket.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Incorrect Description The shirt was very nice, but it is fitted, and neither the title, the description, nor the label indicated it was. By the time I figured out something was wrong, other sizes were sold out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shirt for Sunny, Hot travel My husband wore this shirt in Egypt recently and it worked perfectly protecting him from the desert sun. It was light enough not to wear even in the desert heat and did its job. It was so light that it could be packed in the carry-on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good outside shirt Really, I have to use more than 50 words just to say it is "good?" Good for walks in the woods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed...and more. Due to medicine side-effect, I am very sun sensitive, and have to wear sun-block, long-sleeve shirts year round. I'm so glad I found that L.L. Bean still had these excellent TropicWear SPF 50 shirts. I bought two recently and, as I expected from L.L. Bean, they are of excellent quality, nice fit, and have thoughtful features (zipper pocket, built-in eyeglass cleaner cloth, large pockets with really good velcro closures and fun colors.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A Tragically Sad Substitute L.L.Bean, why do you not bring back the Rapid River Technical Shirt Long Sleeve Men's?!?!?! It was the lightest, most breathable, most comfortable (even under heavy backpacks!), most adjustable, and most rugged shirt ever. I bought 3 back in 2018, and I've worn them on over 30 summer summits in the Cascades. They're just now starting to wear thin. if I'd had an inkling that L.L Bean would discontinue one of the best products I've ever known, I would have bought a dozen more. -- I recently bought these Tropicwear Shirts hoping for similar performance as the design is very comparable. Instead, the fabric is heavier, breathes poorly, and is too rough to wear under the straps of a pack. I wore one summiting a mountain earlier this summer and will never make that mistake again. The only suitable use I've found for them is to wear on my job in healthcare. -- On the bright side, these shirts are heavier and appear well made so should last well. Just don't buy it thinking that it is activewear.
