Product Details

This just might be our favorite family tent in our 109-year history. Field testing found it to be extremely weatherproof, roomy and well-ventilated. A rear "mud room" keeps wet, muddy boots and gear out of the sleeping area.

We worked with the guides from our Outdoor Discovery Program to develop a tent capable of enduring harsh Maine weather. They put it to the test on the rugged Maine coast and on a multiday canoe trip down the Penobscot River. Our guide said, "we had heavy downpours on our first morning, and the tent was bone dry. It was great to have the back vestibule to keep our gear dry. And high winds were no problem." In fact, the ODP loved it so much, they'll be using it for all their overnight trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent! We've only used this tent once so far, GREAT first impression, it held up great in one of Maine's heavy rain and wind storms, everyone stayed dry!! Tent is roomy and appears to have llbean high quality! Wondering if there are any additional accessories for this tent however, it looks like there should be a hanging mesh basket overhead for storage however nothing of that sort was in the bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect couple's tent This tent worked perfectly for the two of us. Inside we had a full air mattress and had plenty of room left over. It is well built and has features that should last a very longtime including zippers and tent poles. We highly recommend this tent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from OK for fair weather campers - leaked I wanted this tent to work, but the fly is too finicky to set up. We apparently had a small ripple near the very the top of the fly, which we couldn't see while setting up. The ripple collected water during a storm overnight, and the fly got saturated and proceeded to drip through the tent ceiling. We could not remove the ripple by adjusting the guy lines to the fly, at least not with only two people. This degree of fine tuning is too much to ask, assuming it would actually be possible to get the fly exactly taut in all directions. After three days of nearly continuous rain, the underside of the fly was as wet as the upper side. The stubby part of fly over the front door also accumulated a lot of water, spilling beside the front door, although the front door itself stayed dry. Otherwise, it was an ok tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Northern Guide 6 Person Tent - an AMAZING teng I purchased this tent for my family of 5 (me, my wife and three kids - aged 7, 5 and 3). We live in California, but camp in a variety of locales. The first time we took this tent camping, it was also the first time our two youngest kids had been camping ever…and this tent could not have been better. It’s easy to set up, VERY roomy, and extremely adjustable based on temperature. The day started around 85 degrees, so we didn’t use the rain fly at first to keep it cool. Then as the California fog set in, we easily put the rain fly on and opened the vents and it was perfect inside. As the night cooled, we closed the vents and it was incredibly comfortable. While it would be nice to have two screens on each side of the tent, the size of the tent and the adjustability of various vents on the roof provided plenty of ventilation. And having the solid rain fly provided needed relief during the night when an early season rain storm hit. All in all, this is a great tent. It’s not the lightest or smallest to pack (although it does pack quite small for a very spacious 6 person tent), it is easy to set up, easy to use, and very camper friendly. I’ve since brought it on several trips with my wife and kids in different configurations, and even when it’s just three of us I still prefer this tent because of its simplicity to set up and use and spacious nature. It is incredibly well built and I have no doubt it will continue to serve us well!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Design The roof leaks and it’s missing a screen door on one entrance. I will be exchanging it after LL Bean comes up with a suitable replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Northern Guide Tent There is a reason this tent has the description "Northern" in it. Looking closely you'll notice that it has one screened door, and roof vents. It's made for camping in cooler climates where you want ventilation, but the evenings are not hot enough to want the tent fully ventilated. The back opening to access to storage area doesn't have screening, which makes it easier to access from the interior, but in a high bug area would make opening it for cross-ventilation problematic. We took this to New Hampshire in July and it preformed well. It rained heavily several nights and the tent was dry using only the fly that came with the tent. It was pitched with a plastic tarp under the floor on a site that was level and quick draining. The back fly not only provides a storage area for your stuff, but it also ensures that rain drips off far from your sleeping area. The roof vents dripped during one heavy downpour, but we closed them up and no more drips. They did not drip during lighter rains. We opened up the front door to just the screen about halfway and the tent was very comfortable, we got fresh air but not a chilling breeze. Had the temperatures not dipped down into the 50-60 degree range at night I think the tent might have been hot and we'd have wished for more side ventilation. The back storage area is nice for wet weather, and easy to access from the interior. In a heat wave you could probably open the back opening and count on the covering tarp to reduce flying insects. Overall I think this is a good tent for someone who wants to be able to stand up in their tent and is planning on car camping in areas that are prone to rain, cool at night and not over run with flying insects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, almost great Just used this tent for a family camping trip to the Adirondacks. It was a rainy week, and the tent held up very well in one large storm and several smaller ones. The tent components are very high quality- from the poles to the zippers, everything just feels more substantial than cheaper tents. It's also very easy to setup. One mild negative- the 'front door' to the tent does not have a large enough awning to protect even a pair of shoes from rain. There is a covered area by the rain fly at the 'back' of the tent, but you don't really want to wear muddy shoes through the tent to then leave them at the back. We just started using the more covered rear entrance as the main door. The bigger issue is that I wish the tent had more ventilation. There are two large doors for both the front and rear entrance, but only one of them has an integrated screen. There are no side windows (they'd be completely covered by the rain fly in this design), so the only other vent is through the top of the ceiling. It's a tall tent with a large door, so there's enough ventilation for most nights. But, on very warm nights with a chance of rain, I will really wish both doors had an integrated screen.
