Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go-To Boots for Sub-Zero Weather These winter snow boots are as warm as advertised. The online tool helped ensure I purchased the correct size, which was my greatest concern.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm Toes I wore these when the temperature was in the teens, and I never even felt the cold while walking over snow covered trails. The only drawback to me is that the shoes are a bit more bulky than they looked in the pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arctic Tested - Excellent up to 10 Degrees I have been genuinely impressed by this shoe. The first thing I loved is how lite the shoe is, almost felt like a running shoe (a little exaggeration just to drive the point). I had brought this prior to my trip to Norway and Svalbard in late Dec/early Jan, I wanted to put this through the wringer to see how it withstood. Some specifics on size and changes I made. I am usually a size 13, I ordered a size 14 and that gave me plenty of room even with my thick wool socks. I also added a wool insole on top of the existing insole. Initially I did pull the stock insole out but later realized I had enough room so kept the original and added a wool insole on top. I also have a feeling that this may not be waterproof as described, since I was wearing woolen socks and had a wool insole, I wasn't really impacted by a little bit of what I think was water seeping in but I do plan to apply a waterproof spray before my next use. Now for the test results, Norway was mostly 15 to 20 degrees and this handled it effortlessly. I was also hardly stationery in Norway so I am quite positive that played a factor as well. Traction on snow was good, for icy surfaces I always have my cleats on, there is no sole which by itself will give you traction on ice. It was a completely different story when I got to Svalbard, weather over there was constantly in low single digits and most days even negative. This shoe is definitely not made for that, even with my thickest buffalo wool socks along with wool liners, my toes were frozen to the extent that it was painful. At about 0 degrees I could no longer take it and switched to my tried and tested Mukluks (yes, I was deliberately testing the limits to see what the breaking point would be). I was moving around constantly, even then, this shoe is not built for that weather condition. In conclusion, for about 80-90% of winter in the US this shoe will be perfect (please make sure you add a wool insole and wear woolen socks for this to hold true). If you are in a place where it's constantly single digits or below then this shoe is not for you. I hope you found this helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LADIES - WARMEST BOOTS - WIDE WIDTH!!! LADIES - I wear a size 9W in womens boots. Could not find a WARMEST rated boot for Women in a Wide Width. Tried the 7Mens - but went with the size 8Mens to be able to wear a medium weight sock. So these run a bit small. Fit is GREAT - and Warmth is Wonderful. Have only walked about 15 min or so in “teens” temps - but there was no noticeable difference in my foot warmth. As other’s have noted the laces did not want to stay tied, so bought replacement. VERY HAPPY

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very nice and warm boot It takes time and usage to properly rate a boot, especially a winter one. I can give my first impressions, however, This boot is quite warm, rather light in weight, comfortable and well made. It is now my winter boot for walks in the woods especially on cold days. It has a real heel which is good for protecting gaiter straps that run under the boot, but it could use a loop/ring on the top front part for gaiters to hook into. It has a good outsole for traction. I sized mine up a half size given comments I read, and that was a good move as these run a bit tighter than my prior boots. I think I might even have gone up a full size, and if needed just thicken the socks a bit. But I'm happy with the size I got. I have one initial concern and it may be a situation most people won't face. I bought these boots also hoping to use them when snowshoeing on our mountain trails on long and/or cold hikes, but I have found that my Tubbs Flex bindings tend to rub the sides of my winter boots in four places. I noticed some wear after one use in these Bean boots in similar locations and unfortunately most of those areas were fabric so I wonder how long that fabric would last. My current snowshoe boots are predominately leather on the sides and over the toes, and that can handle some wear and I can also place duct tape or Aquaseal on that full leather to take future wear; but that tape won't stay on the fabric and thin leather strips of the Bean boot. Aquaseal doesn't look promising on that but I may give it a try. I'd like other options. But this is only an initial appraisal.
