Recent Rod
The bottom cap of the rod fell off while casting and the fishing line that comes with it could be a little stronger. Overall, a nice rod.

Poor gravity pole
Top part of pole broke in half first time using it, reel seems like good quality

Nice combo overall
Seems like a decent outfit. Rod is lightweight and reel is smooth if not a little stiff. Line is terrible and there is no information on what pound test it is. Changing the line made a big difference in performance. Would be nice if information on the components were available like who makes reel and rod blank - different reviews say its a Loomis blank but others not clear. It is made in China which was a little surprising but not unusual these days.

Breaks with little use
Lovely light and comfortable rod, but the tip broke off the first time we used it. I had purchased two of these rods, one just a little longer than the other. The second rod's tip broke as well, and the reel feel apart and the parts fell in the water.

Balanced lightweight casting combo
The catalog photo shows a spinning reel, but I bought the casting combo. Excellent workmanship and fit and finish overall. The small casting reel is made of carbon fibre and has an exceptionally smooth mechanism. The two-piece carbon fibre rod is strong yet flexible, easy to cast and balances perfectly with the reel.
I switched from spinning to casting with this combo, wanting the pinpoint accuracy offered by casting. I can throw my lightest topwater lure, and pull it through the worst hazards. The reel adjustments are accurate and easy to set, avoiding birds' nests (as long as I remember to keep my thumb on the spool). The combo comes with a full spool of 12lb monofilament, which is in the middle of the suggested range. I bought it in a LL Bean store so I had a chance to see if it was for me before purchase. Overall highest recommendation. It's marketed as being for bass, but my photo shows a nice trout I caught and released back into Rock Creek in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC.
