Getting ready for Xmas Island
Just got my new Switchpack yesterday. My main question is how are you intended to use the detachable bag as a stand alone chest pack when there does not seem to be a way to mount it on your waders or hand it from your neck? You end up with four very short straps with male ends? WHY?

Guide tested and approved
I’ve used this pack twice guiding weeklong trips on the Allagash River so far this year and it’s been perfect. The smart front compartment is perfect for accessing my fishing gear while canoeing, and the waterproof backpack is very comfortable for portages, etc. for my female build. Thanks for making such a great product!

A Traveling Fly Fisher's Solution
I love this bag and its a fantastic price point. Works as a great dry bag for the canoe and boats. I've owned this bag for 2 years now and it has seen action in Belize, Hawaii, and Florida multiple times. I also use it on all day freshwater trips and coastal fishing. I can carry my entire salt water setup shown in the images below. I also throw in a water bottle, hat, and jacket. I fly it as a carry on and if needed you can easily remove the rod tubes and chest pouch to fit the smallest overhead bins. My favorite feature that is overlooked are the small pouches on the left and right waistband. They are the perfect size to keep tourniquets in if one should have the unfortunate need to deploy one rapidly. I find the bag to be comfortable, well thought out, and durable. Sure there could be some minor improvements but those improvements would drive up the cost considerably. When I compared and overanalyzed all of the other dry bag back packs this one came out on top for my needs. I was not disappointed!

Solid pack so far
Lots of folks in reviews are dinging this product based on the chest pack component not being waterproof, but that fact is super clear in the product listing. For me, the fact that I can keep my lunch, extra layers, and my camera if I want to bring it all dry in the main pack is great, and I can live a less waterproof pouch in exchange for easier access with my tackle. I'll mention since it wasn't obvious to me at all from the photos or description, there are straps that come out from behind the waist belt pockets to attach the bottom of the chest pack to your front so it isn't swinging around all over the place.
A couple areas for possible improvement:
*It would be awesome if LL Bean included (or sold) straps to use the chest pack as a standalone option without the main pack, so that I could avoid repacking into a different bag on smaller days. I'd even be fine with just adding a belt slot on the back of the small pack, or using opposite buckles on the top and bottom so I could lash it to my belt with the existing straps.
* Most every other manufacturer includes some kind of lash tabs or MOLLE webbing on waist belts of fishing packs now, so you can add net holsters, water bottle holders, etc. It would be nice to have that on this pack.
*Additionally or alternately, it would have been nice to have a net passthrough in the back panel of the pack, again as is common with competitors' packs.
*The straps to hold rod tubes don't seem to be great, and I expect they'll fail at some point based on the delimitation I'm already seeing. That said, they're easily replaced for a few bucks a pop with Voile Nano series straps.
Overall, based on my few days using this pack thus far, I'm pleased. It's cheaper than most comparable waterproof fishing packs, and that's before you account for the chest pack that comes with this one and is an additional purchase with most competing options.

The backpack works well. I have two things that I wish I had known. The first is the small compartment that can strap to the front, it’s not waterproof. I had my wallet and some other stuff that I didn’t want to get wet in it. I realized that it’s the zipper that lets water in. The pack never got in the water but it did rain pretty good. The other thing is that the tube holder wasn’t a large enough diameter to hold my Spey rod tube. Other than that it works really well and I like it a lot. That’s the only reason I gave it three stars. Great pack

Backpack is amazing. 2 downfalls the switchback should be waterproof as well and there are no cup holders on the bag!

Lots of great features
The pack has lots of cool features you can't find on any other packs or dry bags. This is a great bag over all with a few cons. The sternum strap's elastic band offers too much slack or stretch and makes it useless in my opinion. I wish the bottom was reinforced or double layered for those rough shorelines. The angle the shoulder straps attach to the bag makes them dig into your neck so it's not the most ergonomic or comfortable bag. The hip belt helps take some of the weight off so that is the bag's saving grace when it comes to comfort. See the picture comparison to my other bag showing it's design flaw. The clips on the shoulder straps for the chest bag should also be able to swivel to accommodate mounting the chest bag at different heights. I also wish there was a place for a water bladder. Even so, this is an awesome bag and I plan to use it for everything from fishing, hiking, motorcycle trips, and everything outdoors. Highly recommended to all who enjoy the outdoors.
