We've always insisted on using top-quality, tightly woven wool for these classic pants. It's warm when wet, quiet in the woods and exceptionally durable for many seasons of hard use in the field. In fact, wool has been a staple of Maine sportsmen for generations because of its reliability, durability and versatility. A hidden comfort waist adjusts quickly when you add or remove layers.

Great Pants!
These pants are great! Real (substantial) wool flannel. Good fit (36x34 & 204 lbs). Terrific for winter outing! I wear them on cold weather fly fishing float trips & hunting but work just as well out to dinner in winter or at the ski lodge too! Can’t find this quality elsewhere. Highly recommend.

Are these meant to be worn outdoors?
I ordered the Maine Guide Wool Pant to wear in the NW wintertime for outdoor work and play (e.g. woodchopping and snowshoeing). When they arrived, I found the wool fabric acceptable: thick enough but surprisingly light, but I had no reason to think it wouldn't be durable. The dealbreaker for me was the expandable waist design. It's weird and hard to describe: The front of the pants, from the fly around to the leading edge of both front pockets, is continuous. This front section is joined to the back with elastic banding strips at the front pockets. I just worried that the elastic banding would lose its already-weak elasticity and leave me with pants that wouldn't stay on. I always wear a belt, which of course adds some structural integrity, but the pants just sat a bit oddly when I tried to attach a multi-tool and flashlight to the belt. Really wanted to like these pants, and maybe they're ok for office wear. I just don't think they're designed for serious outdoor use.
I'm 5'11", 170 lb, and the 34" waist/29" inseam fit me nicely.

Smaller sizes?
As some women have commented and perhaps on behalf of other thinner men, where are the smaller sizes of these pants? I would definitely buy these pants but the sizes, offered for it seems years now, would never fit me. Hopefully it becomes financially viable for the company to offer smaller sizes in the future.

Women’s sizes PLEASE!
Not sure why women’s wool guide pants haven’t ever been made?! I think they’d sell out, just like the women’s wool guide jackets! I keep trying to get one…but all sizes in the colorway I want are always sold out SO FAST! Please consider more guide/heritage pieces made for women!

Going strong after 25years
Im a petite woman and bought these in a men’s 30” waist over 25 years ago. A little west and tear but I love love love them. My version has the high back waist and ankle straps to adjust pant leg closure. I’d love to get a second pair but LLBean only sells 32” as it’s smallest. If anyone has an old pair they’d sell please post in a review. They STILL don’t make a woman’s version.

Tried, true and warm pants
I’ve owned a pair of these pants since 1980. I love them. they just feel like home. The fit is so comfortable and the wool is cozy. I use suspenders with them which I find most comfortable.
