We love to stalk the beaches and rocks of Maine with surf-casting rod in hand in search of big striped bass. No matter the species you're after, this surf rod offers the technical features needed to tackle the surf zone, a place notorious for putting gear to the test. Best of all, it comes with an unbeatable price.

  • High-modulus graphite blank with medium-fast action.
  • Two-piece construction for easy transport and storage.
  • EVA/rubber handle for a sure grip and excellent durability.
  • First guide is reversed to prevent braided line from looping over and snagging.
  • Low-profile guides let line shoot quickly for optimum distance.
  • Extended handle creates a powerful fulcrum for maximum distance.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Anyone think the 8 ft would be light enough to throw popping corks long distance for a extended period of time anyone I’m fishing from a wall on a dam needing a 50/70yrd throw I’m pitching up to 3 oz for large shoal bass hybrids and stripper’s?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong Backbone and Sensitive I bought this in the fall and have no spent several days on the surf around Massachusetts using this rod. I bought the 10’ (1-4oz) and it is excellent! I have been throwing everything from 3/4” Al Gags, 1oz Bucktail, 3oz poppers, to 4oz+ of chunk bait and weight and it handles them all the same. You get great parabolic casting and as soon as the Bucktail hits the bottom you can feel a smooth tap through the rod which is ideal (and surprising on a rod of this size). I paired it with a Penn Battle 6000 and I think that’s ideal, an 8000 is just far too heavy to be casting with, I’m sure a 5000 would be fine as well. Needless to say… if any of this sounds like what you are looking for in a surf-rod pull the trigger because it’s a steal at this price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality rod and good casting distance (10ft rod) Yes, the first eyelet is meant to be upside down. With that being said, man this rod really slings the bait a good distance from the surf and the metallic blue finish on the rod looks very clean too. I caught a 10+ catfish that put up a good fight just yesterday and the rod felt very strong throughout the fight. I never knew LL Bean made fishing gear but I’m certainly not disappointed with this rod!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amendment to review My earlier review contained a criticism that was INCORRECT. The rod DOES have the rod stats printed on it! I just missed them before. My bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Took a chance. Good gamble Took a chance on this. Wanted a 9 foot inshore rod. Couldn't find a Shimano in stock anywhere. Bean had this. I don't think of LL Bean as a fishing rod outfitter. @ the same time, I have never gotten anything from Bean that hasn't been top quality! So, I ordered this, set it up with a Shimano Ultegra 4000 reel. The rod performs very well. One "complaint". Bean should print the rod specs on the rod. It's action, weight ratings, line and lure limits. So far so good. Landed a midsize Shad on 1st time out. So, it's lucky too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LL Bean 9 Ft Surf Rod. It is becoming the new Backbone of all of my other fishing rods. The ability to fight a Spanish on the pier is remarkable. Honestly, I wanted an LL Bean rod for years, but a little sceptical, but, after catching many Spanish Mackerel in the 2-3 pound range, I'm sorry I didn't buy on earlier. Your rod is as good as your LL Bean legacy. Fishing in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
